Ahead drum sticks

About a month ago i only hade a pair of sticks left so i went to my local-ish music store to get myself some more. As i walked in the drum section the friendly staff welcomed me with a big smile. Ha like that would ever happen. Anyway as i walked in i saw in front of me a wall with Ahead drums sticks. they are not wooden stick but METAL STICKS! I kidd you not those sticks are awesome. They have a plastic sleav over the metal part so when the sleav is worn out you can just get a other one for like 2 bucks. The sticks are heavy and yiou can get more power with them since they bounce way more and they make your drum sound powerfull! Also they look awesome when you play a live show. the ones i got where the Lars Ulrich signature serie. I remember reading in a interview with Lars saying after he tryed them he never whent back... well i think im gonna do the same. Only problem with them is the price. The pair i got cost 50$! It's a investment but in the end it payes off. you will notice a difference on your first hit. I recomend them.

1 or 2?

Sorry i havent been posting alot in the pass week i have been over my head with work and school. Now that this is out of the way i got a question on my mind. I am looking to buy a new drum set, a actual brand name one and also a bigger one. Now i an really into metal and the use of double kick and i want two bass drum insted of a double pedal. Some of my friends are telling me it's a waist of money and room and so on. The brand i would love to own is Tama since first of all they sound grat for metal and second my two all time rum herosare roking a Tama. I am talking of Lars Ulrich and Mike Portnoy and they both have a two bass drums (three for Mike). When I when al long and McQuade to go buy myself a pait of Ahead drum stick ( will talk about those bad boys later) i asked for a estimat on a Tama star classic drum set with two bass drums and five toms. The price was more then 5G!!! so I asked if there was a alternative, like a drum set that comes with two bass drums. He showed me a pretty cool Ludwig epic Modular drum set wich i ave never seen befor. It comes with two rack toms and two floor toms plus the cooles feature... two conectable bass drums. The bass drums are not long at all but you can connect them together for a big bass drum or use it as a double bass set up. Or even hang one up and use it like a gong drum. I amnot decited on what i want i just felt like dicusing my toughts with you guy's. Also son i will put up some drum solo's and some drum covers.

L'écho d'un peuple 08 summer trip

Me and a group of student got the chance to be in one of the biggest play's in canada. this is the hi-lights of the trip.

1)
On the bus leaving Toronto, we are on our way to Ottawa. We are all pumped and redy to go. We know how fun the next few days will be and the wait is bairly manageable. Minutes feel like hours on this long bus ride. Even if I have a lot of good friends with me on the bus we all feel like it takes forever to get there.

2)
After a few hours of bordom, drowzines kicks in. Most of my friends fall right asleep as soon as the conversation dies off. I cant sleep on the bus so Mr. Ipod becomes my new best friend. The light fades fast outside and I think the bus driver got lost… We are on little single laine roads with no sings anywhere. I don’t think it’s the right way to Ottawa.

3)
We arrive at destination! We finally get out of the bus. We are tired, hungry and happy to be here. The school we are sleeping in brings back a lot of memories from the year before when we did it for the first time. We have a good night sleep… for a good 4 hours! At like 6 am we got waken up by the radio playing on the p.a. system. Since we cant fall beck asleep we did the most natural thing that came in mind… PILLOW FIGHT!!! For some strange reason the girls dint like getting awaken by people running bare foot on a gym floor.

4)
First stop the museum of cultures in Quebec on the other side of the river. I really love that museum because of all the nice things we saw the year before and a lot when I was a kid my parents took me there many times so I did bring a nostalgia mood. A long walk, a lot of talking, the smell of old houses and over prices food is what this trip gave. Still never the less was a pretty cool trip.

5)
A full day or exploring ahead! We start at the museum of civilisation at Hull on the other side of the river, then we start our long journey by foot towards the Bi-market in down town ottawa. At the same time when in many gardens and paths beside the Rideau Canal. I have been trough Ottawa many times so I knew all the nice spots to go. At our arrival at the market we did the same as Obama. We got a beaver tail. After the walk we are on our way to go eat and wait till sun down to see the play we have been waiting for.

6)
Like last year the show is just breath taking. Over 250 casts, 500$ of special effect every show, a boat mounted on a bus and many more surprises. This got to be the best play I have ever seen. The entire show brings emotion and excitement, especially during the combat scene where 200 people fight at the same time on stage. A other thing on our mind is that we will be playing in it the next night. Me and all the other people who already did it the year before know that it will be fun but the new ones where starting to get nervous after they say the play and the crowd of about 2500 people a night.

7)
After a very short night we begin our full day of training and briefing. So we basically have to learn and perfect in a day what can take months for a real cast to learn. We only stop at 12 that day to get food but since time was short we hade to get more explanations while we ate. Everyone was stressed, tired, hungry but we hade a smile on our face because we knew the show was coming up and it would be all worth it. So just a few minutes before the show we gave the best smile we could and took a picture. Then we rush to our spots and let the show begin!

8)
Yet a other shorter night and a longer day of training. Now we have to get choreography because we have a fight seen tonight. At the end of that brutal day we take are still standing and manage to get in costumes and still be ready for tonight’s show. When we thought that this would be our last show we where upset but when we thought that we would be a combat scène with an other 100 people gave us a rush that maid us last trough the last show.

9)
THE SHOW IS OVER! At the moment that the ending song finished playing half the group started crying. We all got to know everyone so much and the thought of saying good bye tomorrow really upset us. But shortly after we got cheered up because the cast threw a after party just for us. We party most of the night and when no one could stand we left the stage for the last time back the school to get a bit of sleep. It took only a few minutes after I got off the bus to be in my sleeping bag fast asleep.

10)
Time to go. We wanted to do it again but we hade to leave. The thought of having to sit in that bus again for a other trip from Ottawa to Toronto dint please me. Even if I was very tired I wasn’t able to sleep. Mr. Ipod kept me going for a little while. I thought I was fine after I got off the bus but after I got home, I was very upset and almost depressed. This tripe has been the highlight or this summer and the one before. I was already looking forward for it next year.

Metallica & Megadeth

I have to say something that is really been botherng me for a good while now? litle Megadeth an boys who think that Megadeth is better then Metallica and that Dave Mutaine is a god! First of all no he is not a god. Second you cant realy say one is better then the other beacuse they are not the same kinde at all. Megadeth is more trash metal and Metallica is more heavy metal. It's like saying AC/DC is better then Madona. Like saying cheese is better then orange... you get the point. Personaly I like both of them, maybe Metallica more but i dont hate. On every Youtube video's with Megadeth all the hardcore fan boys start hating on Metallica. they dont even hate each other anymore so can you guy's chill out a bit? It's imature and pointless.

This is Weird

SO today at my house i hade a little jam session withg a couple of my buddy's, everything whent well... until after. For some odd reason my drums sound like crap now. i duno when we jammed and this morning sounded great. But after they left and i played stuff alone i noticed at first my snae sounded pretty bad so i tued it. A few min later my floor tom sounded bad so i tuned it. Now my two rack tom sound like crap and i got sick of tuning so I stop for today. So my theory is that when you retune something it can change the whole sound. for a little test try this. it your kick drum tree times, then turn your snare off and do it again. It ill change the whole sound of the bass drum. Anyway i will post some of my drum covers soon i think but first i need some songs to cover. So if you have a song you will like me to do just send a comment.

Travis Barker

Travis Landon Braker is one of the best drummers around, not only that he is also pretty young. He playes drums for the world famous band Blink-182 and got many side projects since blink broke up in 2005. Travis is a big fan of hip-hop music and Drum'n bass. since Blink is Punk Rock he sayed he dint have the chance to play any other kind of music. one of his most famous side project was Soulja boy remix. I have to say I like the Travis Brarker version WAY better the the original. A Thing that got to me a little while back was during a jam session i was talking to one of my buddy's and he sayed to me that Travis is the best drummer in the world that no one can play his stuff... Back in the days I wasent good at drums so i coulnt say i could play his stuff but i knew there was better drummers out there. We dint talk about it to this day but i think ghe still thinks that Travis is the best. Now dont take this the hard way i still love travis style and skills, but i know so many better drummers. tell me what you think of this. Also am i the only one who hates his tatoos?

The Mike Portnoy Ringo drum kit

Mike Portnoy is a diehard Beatles fan. he asked Tama to make him a replica of Ringo's Classic 1960's Ludwig drum kit. it looks pretty cool but looks to modern.

North Drums

A little while back I was surfing the inter-web and I stumbled on this drum company, North Drums. Those odd shaped drums look amazing but at the same time makes me wonder how would they sound. Because of there odd curved shape I wonder how would the sound travel, mainly if it’s poorly tuned. So I will look up a bit more on those North Drums and get some more Intel on this but for now I will just share pictures with you. They look just awesome!

Never Without you

Ring Starr today

In the last post i talked about Ringo's drumming, now he is more of a singer. I actually like his solo project but still dosent match Paul. There is his tribute song to George and his song liverpool 08.

On a random note i Value Village i found a horse saddle. I love going there to find the randomest objects. So every once in a while i will share those items with youjust for fun.

Ringo Starr

For all all Beatle fans out here today is the release date of Beatle’s Rock Band. So as my first post I will like to talk about Richard Starkey AKA Ringo Starr. Back then Ringo was consider the icon for drumming but today a lot of people say he is bad. You have to say Ringo doesn’t use a lot of fancy moves when he play’s (ex: triplets, muli-beats) but in context was to my opinion good. The Beatles songs where very simple and solid so he dint need to show off, it worked well in the song. Also you have to understand drums dint have a lot of main parts back then, he dint need to show off. But that got me wondering, how would he sound if he was to play today’s music, how would he sound? Leave comments or response if you feel like it.
A baby is born!
